The Mom Performance
90 seconds
Matthew 6:26
26 Look at the birds of the air; they neither sow nor reap nor gather into barns, and yet your heavenly Father feeds them. Are you not of more value than they?
If you’ve ever been to your child’s concert or show of any kind, you know the face your child makes when she walks out on stage and is looking, searching, seeking for your face. Despite attending this school for however long, she looks lost and a little scared in her eye-darting search for Mom.
When your child ultimately spots you (which, c’mon, we all know you’re also waving your arms and trying to politely scream her name too!), a huge smile spreads across both your faces. Arms wave, eyes twinkle, you are both found, anchored, and OK. The show can go on.
Let’s turn this metaphor on its side, Mom - this time you’re the child and God is watching you. Not so hard to imagine, right?
How many times are we going about our day “on stage” when something disrupts the balancing act? We keep pacing to save face, but those who know us see we’re nervous, unsure. Our thoughts start winding and we panic-search for answers.
Maybe your babe has a high fever and you’re literally speed Googling “rashes on thumb small red hot pictures.” Maybe your friend mentions a scary news article you haven’t read yet and your brain is racing down what-if road. Maybe your kiddo just threw a spoonful of pureed peas in your face and you’re on your last thread of sanity.
Whatever it is this week you’re trying to perform, God is sitting there watching you, waiting for you to look to Him.
You are not lost, daughter of God. You do not need to seek. He is right there. He’s never late, He has the best seat, and He’ll be there until the end of the performance.
